Ealing Council begins public consultation on its new housing strategy

Ealing Council is inviting residents to comment on its new housing strategy for the borough and its seven towns which covers the years 2024 to 2029.

The housing strategy was unveiled 7 May 2024 and covers a number of areas including the supply of affordable homes, supporting senior citizens to live independently as they get older, quality of housing and the type of new homes needed and where.

The survey is open until 30 July 2024 and Labour-run Ealing Council said in a statement it aims to “listen to residents and community groups to ensure their priorities are represented”.

According to Ealing Council more than 7,500 families are currently on its housing waiting list.

Councillor Peter Mason, leader of Ealing Council said: “Working with people across Ealing is essential as we look to make our borough a fairer place to live, and now we want to gather your views on our new plan to tackle the housing crisis.”

Councillor Shital Manro, the council’s cabinet member for good growth and new housing added: “We believe that our new draft housing strategy sets out bold and ambitious plans and we want to hear from our communities to find out what you think.

“Our new approach to housing builds on the council’s pledge to be open, transparent, and inclusive, and to make sure that local people are at the centre of the decisions we take. We know that when it comes to building new homes, one size does not fit all, so we are adapting our approach so that we can respond to the different housing needs across the borough”.
