A new community fitness programme is set to launch in Acton next month to help women who find it difficult to take part in regular exercise become more active.
Movement on the Mount, run by charity Action West London with Ealing Fit Club, is funded for 12 months by Sport England and will offer weekly, no-cost exercise classes at St Mary’s Church Hall on The Mount, Acton (W3) from November 2025.
The initiative targets women who may feel uncomfortable in conventional gyms or fitness settings, including those on low incomes, unpaid carers, women from diverse cultural backgrounds, and those who are pregnant or postnatal. The sessions are open to women and girls aged 15 and over, from teenagers to older adults.
Gary Buckley, chief executive of Action West London, said the project was designed to remove barriers such as cost, language and time pressures. “We want every woman to feel empowered to prioritise her health,” he said.
Ealing Fit Club, which runs Ealing’s only free women’s running group, said the collaboration aimed to show that “fitness is for everyone – not just those who can afford it”.
Organisers hope the sessions will improve participants’ physical and mental wellbeing while building a stronger sense of community among local women.
