Smoke from two fires, one in nearby Hayes and one in Surrey, has reached many parts of Ealing today (24 July 2022) with residents closing windows and reporting the smell of smoke in their local areas.
London Fire Brigade has been tackling a large grass fire since mid-afternoon today (24 July 2022) in Cranford Park in Hayes where ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters are dealing with it.
Residents are being advised to close doors and windows if they are being affected by the smoke which is moving across west London. London Firer Brigade has also asked residents to cancel any planned BBQs due to the current situation.
In a tweet, they have said: “Please help us prevent further fires by cancelling all planned BBQs, removing rubbish especially glass from grassland & disposing cigarettes correctly. Our firefighters & control officers are doing a fantastic job in challenging conditions. Your co-operation will help us greatly.”
Over in Surrey, a major incident was declared in early afternoon today (24 July 2022) at Hankley Common where large volumes of smoke is crossing the county and into other areas.
One West Ealing resident told EALING.NEWS that she thought it was someone burning something on an allotment. “I could smell smoke and looked to see what was happening but it wasn’t coming from the allotment and then a relative of mine called me when they heard of the fire in Hayes. So as advised by the fire service, I have closed my windows.”
