With London Underground workers going on strike across the whole Tube network impacting services from Sunday night (7 January 2024) through to early Friday (12 January 2024) morning, Conservative GLA candidate for Ealing & Hillingdon Henry Higgins has called on Mayor of London Sadiq Khan to stop the RMT strikes.
Mr Higgins said: “Sadiq Khan needs to prioritise the well-being of Ealing & Hillingdon residents over trade union interests. The Strikes (Minimum Service Level) Act empowers Mayor Khan to address the imminent disruptions and ensure that local commuters are not left stranded during their daily journeys.”
Mr Higgins also highlighted that since becoming London Mayor in 2016 the next Transport for London strike will be the 140th in eight years. He said: “Ealing & Hillingdon residents will hold Mayor Khan accountable when the Tube network grinds to a halt next week.”
Mr Higgins added: “As Mayor and chairman of TfL, Sadiq Khan has the responsibility to prioritise the needs of Ealing & Hillingdon residents. The impending strikes not only pose a threat to daily commutes but also risk significant economic impact on local businesses. It’s time for Mayor Khan to act decisively in the best interests of our boroughs, and I stand united with the GLA Conservatives in urging him to minimise the impact of these disruptions.”
