Despite the rain, Ealing residents come out to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III with street parties on 6 May 2023

Despite heavy rain and winds, residents across Ealing’s seven towns of Acton, Ealing, Greenford, Hanwell, Northolt, Perivale and Southall didn’t let the weather stop them from holding street parties today (6 May 2023) to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

EALING.NEWS visited a number of street parties across the borough and found that the party mood was in full effect and the weather wasn’t going to dampen the day.

Midhurst Road, W13

The street party for Midhurst Road was organised by Bally Jhajj who when not creating street parties runs local legal firm Elthorne Solicitors. Speaking to EALING.NEWS, Ms Jhajj explained why she arranged the local street party.

“This is a historic moment, it’s a great opportunity for everybody to get together and see one another because I think lives are very busy. People don’t do it often enough. It’s something that was done so often previously, I’ve seen photographs and all the nostalgia around it. It’s great. So I thought it’s nice because we had one for the Jubilees which I organised and everybody really enjoyed that. So I thought, let’s do it again.”

Clitherow Avenue, W7

Curzon Road, W5

In Curzon Road, off Pitshanger Lane, party organiser was Shirley.  Shirley said the party was for all her neighbours as her house suffered fire damage and is now being renovated. It was a way to connect back to her local community. She said: “It’s the perfect way to see everyone again.”

To help residents organise a street party for King Charles III Coronation, Ealing Council like many other councils removed the fee to close roads. It has also offered up to £150 per street for organising a party. While, not all local councils are offering any contribution towards putting on a street party, neighbouring borough Hounslow offered up to £500 per street for a party in its borough.
