Ealing Council has been ranked in the top 12 of all local planning authorities in England on its decision-making service according to Planning magazine.
The publication ranked each local authority across a range of criteria which determined Ealing Council’s planning service as ‘platinum’, the highest above ‘gold’, ‘silver’ and ‘bronze’.
Ealing Council was the only London authority to be recognised with the highest grade. Others in the top 12 include: Southend-on-Sea, Oldham, North Tyneside and Mid Sussex.
The Planning magazine rankings were determined by two main factors on how quickly the council processes planning applications and the quality of those decisions.
The publication looked at the speed by which how many applications a council decides within the legal time limits over a two-year period, while performance looks at the decision quality and how often a council’s decisions are overturned during appeal.
Councillor Shital Manro, Ealing Council cabinet member for good growth and new homes, said: “This platinum rating reflects our success in delivering timely decisions that support sustainable growth throughout our borough.”
Councillor Manro added: “We are committed to ensuring that the right developments happen here, in the right places, at the right times, and our planning service is at the heart of making that ambition a reality. The efficient and often unheralded work our first-rate planners do is helping to delivering new homes and jobs in a way which is sympathetic to our existing neighbourhoods.”
