Ealing Council plans for nighttime economy

Ealing Council is inviting local residents, businesses and workers to give feedback to its recently published new draft strategy for the nighttime economy in the borough.

The draft strategy follows previous consultations with locals about what they thought of the existing 6pm-6am evening and nighttime economies in the borough and its seven towns of Acton, Ealing, Greenford, Hanwell, Northolt, Perivale and Southall.

According to council research, 26.5% of local spend happens between 6pm-6am, over a third of evening and nighttime industries in Ealing are in the culture and leisure sectors, including hotels, sports, hospitality and Ealing is home to 1,457 licensed venues.

Among the ideas being shown to locals include evening community markets, use of community spaces after 6pm,  venues not serving alcohol and later opening cafes.

There is an online survey for each of Ealing’s seven towns which the council says is to reflect “the unique needs and perspectives of every community are considered”.

Councillor Kam Nagpal, Ealing Council’s lead member for decent living incomes, said: “Our goal is to create a vibrant and sustainable evening and nighttime economy that benefits all of Ealing’s diverse communities. There is already so much on offer here, and we want to work with residents and businesses to ensure we can build a strong and bustling 6pm-6am economy for our borough.”

Ms Nagpal added: “We’ve already listened to views from 3,000 local people about what they want from their local economy, and their opinions have helped to inform this plan. We encourage all residents to take part in these surveys and help shape the future of our borough.”

The survey closes on 22 August 2024. To take part, click here.
