Ealing Liberal Democrats call on the Government to cancel energy price cap increase in October set to cost Ealing households nearly £2000

Ealing Liberal Democrats have called on the Government to cancel October’s energy price cap increase.  According to the LibDems, without it, the average Ealing home will have to face paying nearly £2000 a year extra in gas and electricity costs.

Across all of Ealing, households would be saving a massive £249,315,551 combined from all seven Ealing towns, the LibDems say.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Gary Malcolm, Leader of the Opposition on Ealing Council said: “Hard-working families in Ealing are already struggling to make ends meet, and are deeply concerned about how they will cope with the predicted rise in energy bills.”

Councillor Malcolm added: “This Conservative Government is stalling in the face of a national emergency and, yet again, is simply not doing enough to put money back in the pockets of hard-working people. Countless families and pensioners across Ealing are already struggling, and they cannot wait for a new Conservative leader to act.”

The Liberal Democrats say the estimated £36 billion cost across the whole of the UK should be met by windfall taxes on oil and gas company profits, and using the Government’s higher-than-expected VAT revenues as a result of soaring inflation.
