Ealing residents visit bronze horse and plaque Queen Elizabeth II unveiled at Ealing Broadway Centre in 1985

The plaque Queen Elizabeth II unveiled, when she opened Ealing Broadway Centre on 7 March 1985 along with a bronze horse in nearby Oak Road, has been attracting Ealing residents who are sharing their memories and thoughts about The Queen who died yesterday (8 September 2022).

The plaque The Queen unveiled in 1985 is located in St Saviours Walk, opposite Tesco Express which was a branch of Safeway when the centre launched.

The early morning school run today (9 September 2022) saw parents pointing out to their children the connection The Queen had to Ealing when she came here on that Thursday, 37-years ago.

One parent taking her son to school told EALING.NEWS: “The Queen did so much for everyone and it’s so nice to know the Queen came to Ealing and people can see it. This is history and a way to show to younger people the relevance The Queen has and to Ealing.”

Stella, who as a child was 10-years-old when The Queen came to give Ealing Broadway Centre it’s Royal opening shared more of her memories. “It was a great day to be here and see the plaque unveiled. I was in the crowd for that, waving banners and enjoying the atmosphere with my parents. It’s funny to think that the bronze horse is right outside Lloyds Bank which is famous for its horses.”

People are also visiting the bronze horse and plaque before they go and sign the Book of Condolence.

A woman from Hanwell said she was coming here first to see the bronze horse and the plaque before going on to sign the Book of Condolence at Ealing Town Hall.  “It’s incredible to think that The Queen was here and I’m walking where The Queen walked.”
