Hanwell residents concerned over future of collecting post and parcels from Royal Mail’s Hanwell delivery office

Residents and businesses in Hanwell have expressed their concern over the future of their local Royal Mail delivery office in Edinburgh Road after being told that from April 2023, there will not be an option for collecting their post and parcels from it.

Currently, if post or parcel is not able to be delivered and received by the recipient, it gets returned back to the delivery office where it can then be collected but this may be phased out as Royal Mail is reviewing the future of its 1200 customer service points (CSPs) across the country including Hanwell.

In a Hanwell Facebook group, many people have spoken of their worry about the future of not having a CSP at Hanwell delivery office.

One concerned local said: “Our enquiry “customer service point” local depot Office where you can pick up your items, QR code scanning via Dropping off parcels to print, prepaid postage requirements, returning your item requirements and also a customer service point is scheduled to close in April 2023.”

Another resident said: “if you live in Hanwell at the moment it’s a short walk to collect your parcels if they move collections to Ealing or Greenford then it’s a car or public transport.”

While, Royal Mail has not confirmed its plans for the large Hanwell delivery office and if the customer service point (CSP) will be shut, a spokesperson told EALING.NEWS:

“When we issued our half-year results on 17 November 2022, it included:

“Review of Customer Service Points: Royal Mail has introduced a range of new delivery options designed to improve our first time delivery rates. This includes free redelivery, the option to leave parcels in a Safeplace and in-flight redirection through the App and website. With customer footfall down around 50% at our c.1,200 Customer Service Points compared to pre-pandemic, we are conducting a review to determine the optimum number of locations, taking into account efficiency and changing customer preferences.”

It is in that context that we are reviewing our entire network of Customer Service Points (CSP) at our Delivery Offices, and Hanwell would fall under the terms of that nationwide review, but it would be wrong to conclude from that that we’ve finalised any decisions about the closure of specific CSPs.”
