It was a busy weekend of celebrations for the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
Across Ealing, the King’s representative Deputy Lieutenant Richard Kornicki visiting street parties across the borough and delivering a letter from King Charles III and Queen Camilla to organisers of street parties.
EALING.NEWS was there at Elthorne Park Road in Hanwell when Deputy Lieutenant Richard Kornicki arrived and read out the letter and presented Alex, one of the street party organisers with the letter. Alex said afterwards: “We didn’t expect to see the King’s representative and it was so lovely to have him visit out street party.”
EALING.NEWS managed to get a few moments of Deputy Lieutenant Richard Kornicki’s time during a very busy day to ask a couple of questions
How many streets have you done so far today?
I think this is only my fourth. Yesterday I was attending street parties and on coronation day and a rather wet afternoon I’ve covered another five.
What excites you about this year’s carnation and about the residents coming out and celebrating?
Well, exciting thing about this year’s Coronation is it’s 70 years since we had the last one. It’s a wonderful event. It’s something that no other country can do in the way that we do it. And it’s an event that brings the whole country together on the national stage and also equally importantly, in every street and small group party that’s formed.
What the King and Queen would like to see most is what’s happening here today now, which is friends and neighbours, stopping doing all the ordering things in life. Just spend time with each other celebrating that they are a community.
