Locals and commuters call for handrails at North Acton tube station to be fixed after months out of service

Locals and commuters using North Acton Underground station have raised concerns that handrails leading to and from the station remain broken without any details of what the problem is or when it will be repaired.

The entrance area, which is the responsibility of Ealing Council and is located off Victoria Road, has been without all its handrails working for several months and locals say no information has been provided about it.

Residents and commuters using the station can use step free access to get to the main station entrance and not have to use steps but they want to see all entrances fully working.

One resident told EALING.NEWS: “It’s been like this for months. Three of the handrails never seemed to be properly installed and used to wobble when you used them.  They’ve put some barriers up around three of them but haven’t provided any details of what the problem is, what is being done or who is responsible for this.”

A commuter arriving at North Acton Underground station added: “This new entrance is only a few years.  The handrails should be working and not left like this.”

EALING.NEWS reached out to Transport for London. A spokesperson said: “These handrails are Ealing Council’s responsibility, not TfL’s.”

Neil Reynolds, chair of Ealing Green Party told EALING.NEWS: “To make the station accessible for all, including those who find stairs harder to navigate as well as those who want to use the stairs, the council should fix this problem promptly.”

Speaking to EALING.NEWS, an Ealing Council spokesperson said: “The safety of commuters and residents is our primary concern, and we have provided alternative routes to get to and from the station while the handrails are out of use.”

They added: “The delay in replacing the handrails is because there are electrical connections housed in the handrails and therefore replacement requires coordination of multiple suppliers. We are working as quickly as possible to replace them safely.”
