Perivale Park Golf Club has held its annual charity day raising £2,000 to support the work of Macmillan Cancer Support and Certitude.
Despite a heavy rain shower on 17 September 2023 and the threat of closure next year from Ealing Council who want to rewild the land and use it for other purposes, it didn’t dampen the spirits of players who turned up to support the much-loved and attended annual event.
42 golfers along with friends and family of the club took part and raised £2,000 for the two charities.
A spokesperson for the golf club said: “Perivale Park Golf Club thanks the local businesses for their support and donations. Over the years, our members have raised over £20,000 for good causes, which has been much appreciated by charities.”
The charity day was hosted by Leslie Glancy, its first ever lady club captain. The club gave thanks to its executive committee and the events committee for organising the event as well as to Everyone Active and its staff for facilitating the day.
The club also spoke of its former ladies captain of 1972 and 1973 and centenarian Mrs Leila Parks who was unable to join this year due to ill health. The club said: “Sadly, despite our thoughts and prayers for Leila, the club learnt on 18 September 2023 she had passed away peacefully on 17th September. When asked last year, Leila had said the secret to her longevity and her overall health was being able to be active playing golf and meeting new friends on the golf course.”
