Members of the University and College Union at University of West London in Ealing have gone out on strike today (14 February 2023) and tomorrow (15 February 2023).
They say over the years staff have been treated poorly.
EALING.NEWS caught up with one lecturer outside UWL in St Mary’s Road who is on strike and they revealed their reason for strike action.
“UCU is engaged in national strike action to address over a decade of under inflation pay rises, excessive workloads and an increasing casualisation strategy to staff courses. This includes lecturers, technicians, librarians and professional services. UWL has a high proportion of hourly paid employees – it’s believed that this figures over 50%.
“UWL Vice Chancellor has a seat at The National negotiations. The VC in the last financial year for 2021 to 2022 had a financial package worth £407,000.
“There is opportunity to improve working conditions for staff and learning conditions for students. We hope UWL listens to its local employees and leads the change, says a UWL UCU employee and Ealing resident.”
