W4 Youth, a charity for young people in Chiswick that is working on a joint venture proposal with Ealing Council to develop a youth and community centre in Southfield Recreation Ground, has appointed local Councillor Gary Malcolm as a new trustee.
Councillor Malcolm, who is also leader of Ealing Liberal Democrats and the opposition party at Ealing Council, has been a Southfield Councillor for twenty years and has been supportive of W4 Youth since its formation in 2010.
The charity was set up by Sally Chacatte after her son was shot in the face after school. Her aim is to build a youth and community centre in W4 for young people to go to that is safe and offers activities each day of the week.
Ms Chacatte, who is also the W4 Youth chair said: “We are delighted to welcome Gary Malcolm to our board of trustees at a time when we are re-launching our youth provision for 11-19 year olds in our new temporary home in Southfield Recreation Ground as well as raising funds to build a new youth and community centre for the whole community to enjoy. Gary’s experience as a local ward councillor, known by so many in the local community, coupled with the expertise and commitment of our current trustees puts us in an exciting new phase for W4 Youth.”
Councillor Malcolm said: “It is an honour and a privilege to be asked to be a Trustee of W4 Youth. I have respected Sally and the huge amount of time that her and many volunteers have spent giving local teens a chance to shine playing sport or taking part in other activities.”
He added: “I am passionate to do my best to help W4 Youth establish a permanent youth and community centre on Southfield Recreation Ground.”
