On 10 October 2024, residents in the Northolt Mandeville ward will take part in a by-election to vote for a new ward councillor.
EALING.NEWS has asked all candidates standing 7 questions about who they are, what they hope to deliver and why they want residents to vote for them.
Andrew Bailey standing for the Conservatives in Northolt Mandeville answers the 7 questions:
Tell us a bit about yourself, your priorities for the ward and why you want to be councillor for Northolt Mandeville?
I have a background in engineering. My journey has seen me in the fields of building and maintenance, as well as in the service of a charity. Throughout, my heart has always been with community work.
My resolve to bring about positive change in Northolt Mandeville, fuelled by my love for community work, is what drives my candidacy for councillor.
What motivates you?
My parents came to the UK in the 1950s fully integrated into British society and taught us to love this great country. They also instilled in me, along with my siblings, a good work ethic, ambition in life, and the desire to achieve my goals.
What is your own personal connection to either Northolt Mandeville or any other part of the borough?
I have lived in Northolt most of my life, attended Northolt High School, and have a vested interest in the ward. I can even remember my first experience of learning the art of boxing at Northolt Boxing Club, Rowdell Road.
Northolt Mandeville has been neglected over the years, and if elected, I will do my best to bring it up to par with Ealing Central.
What do you consider to be your 3 top political, work or personal achievements and what impact have they had?
I joined the party in 2021 and 2022 was a councillor candidate for Perivale
I did not win the seat but increased the vote share. I was also actively campaigning alongside residents in Perivale to address the issue of multiple HMOs, which has resulted in the Ealing Council agreeing to implement Article 4 direction.
What do you consider to be the top 3 challenges Northolt Mandeville faces and how will you as a councillor address them?
There are many issues in Northolt Mandeville, but based on what I hear from residents, the most concerning are crime, antisocial behaviour, and fly-tipping across the ward.
What do you love about Northolt Mandeville and the borough of Ealing?
Northolt Mandeville is a great location. It has a central line Underground, Which provides quick access to the city, and an overground at Northolt Park.
Now that Gurnell has closed, it has the only swimming Pool in Ealing North. It has always been very diverse but still has kept its unique character.
How accessible will you be to Northolt Mandeville residents and how can they get in contact with you now and if elected how will you ensure you are accessible to them in the future?
If elected as a councillor, I plan to be fully accessible and hold quarterly forums to keep up with local issues.
