With less than 10 months to go until the next Ealing local elections on 7 May 2026, the borough’s Liberal Democrats have confirmed their line-up for Hanger Hill, reselecting two sitting councillors and adding a new candidate to contest the ward.
Councillors Athena Zissimos and Jonathan Oxley will once again stand for the ward, joined by long-standing local resident Mark Sanders. The trio will be aiming to unseat the ward’s third representative, Conservative councillor Fabio Conti, and secure a clean sweep for the Liberal Democrats in Hanger Hill.
Councillor Zissimos, who has served as a councillor in Hanger Hill since 2022, expressed her gratitude at being selected again. She said: “I feel very privileged to have been selected once again to stand in Hanger Hill for the Liberal Democrats in the local elections next year. I have enjoyed being a councillor very much and feel I have done lots of good things to help the residents of Hanger Hill. If I am re-elected for the residents of Ealing I will continue to work hard.”
Her fellow ward councillor Jonathan Oxley, who was elected in a by-election last year (October 2024), said: “I’m delighted to be selected as the Lib Dem candidate for the Hanger Hill ward. Since the by-election where I became a councillor, the Tories are a busted flush. Only the Liberal Democrats can take the fight to Ealing’s useless Labour Council.”
Mark Sanders, who has lived in the borough for over two decades, hopes to make it three out of three LibDems for the ward. He said: “It’s a great pleasure to be nominated as the Liberal Democrat candidate for Hanger Hill again after living in Ealing for 21 years. It is time for more financial scrutiny of the ruling Labour party and how they run the council.”
