Former Ealing Central and Acton MP gets life peerage in Boris Johnson’s honour list

Former Ealing Central and Acton MP Angie Bray has been given a life peerage in former Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s resignation honours list.

Ms Bray, who was a local Ealing MP from 2010 to 2015, previously held a number of roles for the Conservative party as well as having a career as a radio presenter for LBC in the 1980s.

In the 2010 general election, Ms Bray won against Ealing Labour councillor Bassam Mahfouz by 3,716 votes. Ms Bray received 17,944 votes to Councillor Mahfouz 14,228. On the same day as the general election, Councillor Mahfouz also stood as the Labour candidate for Ealing Council ward Northolt West End which he retained his 2006 seat.

Councillor Julian Gallant, Ealing Conservative leader told EALING.NEWS of his delight and some of the projects Ms Bray helped to organise for Ealing and Acton residents: “I knew Angie Bray very well while she was MP for Ealing Central and Acton as I was her Conservative Association Chairman. She was remarkably diligent, looking after thousands of cases in the constituency and across the widest range of residents. A couple of projects Angie started – the Ealing Music and Film Festival and the Ealing and Acton Business Club – are still going strong today.”

He added: “So I’m delighted that Angie is to be ennobled! I look forward to hearing her contributions in the House of Lords and to working with her as we move on and confront all of today’s issues.”

In the 2015 general election, Ms Bray lost her parliamentary seat to Dr Rupa Huq who won by just 274 votes.  Ms Bray received 21,728 votes to Dr Huq’s 22,002 votes.

During her political career, Ms Bray served on the London Assembly for West Central London from 2000 until she stood down in 2008 and was Conservative leader in the Assembly from 2006.
