Ealing councillors looking to go to Westminster

With the General Election set for 4 July 2024, a number of current Ealing councillors are seeking to become members of parliament and are campaigning to win over voters in several constituencies across the UK.

Labour councillor for South Acton, Callum Anderson will be contesting Buckingham & Bletchley. It’s not the first time for Councillor Anderson, he previously stood in the 2019 elections for the South West Bedfordshire seat.

Prior to being selected for Buckingham & Bletchley, he also stood in 2022 to be selected as the candidate for Stevenage but wasn’t chosen.

Following the calling of the 2024 General Election, Councillor Anderson said on X: “Each and every one of us deserves better than the last 14 years. Only Labour will deliver the change we need. Buckingham & Bletchley has a crucial part to play in helping make history. I can’t wait to make the case.”

Labour councillor for Hanwell Broadway, Monica Hamidi will be contesting the seat for Wokingham in Berkshire. In announcing she had been selected, Councillor Hamidi posted on X: “I am thrilled & honoured to announce I have been selected as @UKLabour Parliamentary candidate for Wokingham. My promise as your local voice is to stand up for our communities, to fight for what is right and be part of delivering the change this country needs.”

Also hoping to win a seat is another Labour Councillor for Hanwell Broadway, Yoel Gordon who will be contesting Esher & Walton in Surrey. He posted on 27 March 2024: “Delighted to announce that I have been selected as the Labour Party Parliamentary Candidate for Esher & Walton.”

Fellow Labour councillor for North Hanwell, Claire Tighe has been selected as the candidate for Spelthorne in Surrey. Councillor Tighe posted on X: “Honoured to be standing as @UKLabour ‘s candidate for Spelthorne at the General Election on 4 July. This election is an opportunity to vote for Change. Be part of it. 🗳️🌹”

Over at Ealing Conservatives, Gregory Stafford who currently represents the Hanger Hill ward will be contesting Farnham & Bordon. He’s hoping to follow in the footsteps of his brother Alexander Stafford a former councillor for Ealing Broadway who is now MP for Rother Valley.

When he was announced as the Conservative candidate on 30 August 2023, Councillor Stafford posted on X: “Truly honoured to be selected as @Conservatives candidate for #Farnham & #Bordon. With strong ties to this seat, I’m excited to bring positive change through my experience in healthcare, local government, & charities. Ready to campaign hard for local people and earn your trust!”

For Liberal Democrats, Southfield councillor Gary Busuttil will be contesting Leeds North East.
