Ealing North Reform UK candidate Leon Harris on why he wants to become MP

On 4 July 2024, the UK electorate goes to the polls to vote for who they want as their Member of Parliament.

EALING.NEWS has asked all candidates standing in the three Ealing constituencies of Ealing Central and Acton, Ealing North and Ealing Southall 7 questions about who they are, what they hope to deliver and why they want residents to vote for them.

Leon Harris standing for Reform UK in Ealing North answers the 7 questions:

Tell us a bit about yourself, your priorities for the constituency and why you want to be the next member of Parliament for Ealing North?
My name is Leon Harris and I am the Parliamentary Candidate for Ealing North. I can relate to many people’s struggles since the Conservatives took power over a decade ago. There has never been an election in modern times where so much has depended on your vote. This is your chance to get rid of the Conservatives and unelected World Economic Forum member Rishi Sunak before he passes the baton to Labour and unelected World Economic Forum member Keir Starmer to finish the job of destroying this great country of ours. If we want change we need to vote for it. We need Reform and a new way of doing things instead of the current two party system which has let us all down so badly for decades. Nobody can serve two masters that have different agendas and all politicians should only serve the people of the United Kingdom or not at all. The answer is to vote Leon Harris for Ealing North on July 4th and together we will make our constituency a better place to live for all of us. I work for you. My priorities are:

• Uncontrolled immigration under the Conservatives is rapidly changing the face of UK and London has changed so much in the last four years it is barely recognisable. This is set to continue if we allow Labour and Keir Starmer to introduce their policies.

• Housing is already unaffordable for so many of us it is beyond a joke. Ever increasing house prices and rents are making it so our children will never be able to afford a home of their own.
We all deserve to own our own home.

• Our hospitals are under so much pressure that getting appointments for emergency treatment for our loved ones is a very real challenge.

• Schools are now teaching our children they can change sex as young as five years old. Stop all the woke nonsense.

• Councils are using tax payer money to decorate our roads with colourful crossings and cutting down trees whilst leaving our drains blocked causing flooding and blaming climate change to introduce unfair ULEZ charges.

What motivates you?
We all deserve a fair and just society where we are treated equally and have the same chances in life. Over a period of decades we have had nothing but the 2 party leadership which has proven time and time again that it does not work with the only people benefiting are those at the very top running the corporations. We need a fairer society where everyone pays their fair share. I truly believe this and Reform are increasing the income tax earning threshold so no-one pays tax until they’ve earnt £20,000 a year to show we really mean it. Most importantly for me, on a personal level, is my children are growing up in a world where there are fewer opportunities and too much bureaucracy.

What is your own personal connection to either Ealing North or any other part of the borough?
I previously studied at Ealing College and grew to really like the area with it’s friendly people. There are some really good restaurants here.

What do you consider to be your 5 top political or personal achievements and what impact have they had?
Although relatively new to politics, I’ve had a life-time of running businesses and although times have been noticeably hard under the Conservatives, I am very optimistic about the future under Reform UK with it’s increased tax thresholds for small businesses and low-to-middle income earners. More money in people’s pockets gets the economy going which is what we need.

What do you consider to be the top 5 challenges Ealing North faces and how will you as the MP address them?
We’ve had 12 years of Conservatives slowly dismantling the NHS until it’s at the point where today you struggle to get seen at the hospital. This all needs reversing and I think with cost savings and a focus on efficiency we can bring down waiting list times. We’re introducing a scheme whereby if you don’t get seen within a limited time-frame you will get a voucher to go private. Schools are another concern of mine. They should not be used to push agendas and schools should be politically neutral. Let kids be kids to enjoy themselves. People in Ealing North have seen for themselves that Labour isn’t working for them so while Reform UK might be a relatively knew party we’re already ahead of the Conservatives in many constituencies.

What do you love about the borough of Ealing?
I think there’s a strong sense of community across Ealing North and people are friendly. These are really important foundations to build on but I’ve noticed over the last 2 years that things don’t feel as positive as they used to. I think we’ve all woken up to the “uniparty” which is Conservatives and Labour passing leadership between themselves and I we all know we need a new way of doing things. I want to bring back that energy and what I love about Ealing.
