James Murray, who is seeking to be re-elected as the Labour and Co-operative MP for Ealing North has spoken of Labour’s plans to reduce business rates on pubs and high street businesses as well as tackle anti-social behaviour during a visit to the Greenford Arms in Greenford Broadway.
Mr Murray, who recently served as shadow Treasury minister, told locals of Labour’s plans to replace the existing business rates system and move to a new one that “levels the playing field between high streets and online giants.”
During the visit, Mr Murray also spoke about anti-social behaviour happening in Greenford Broadway and his party’s manifesto to recruit more neighbourhood police.
Mr Murray said: “The Greenford Arms is a fantastic pub for the local community. The pub’s manager, Hayleigh, and the team are doing a brilliant job in making it a success. But we know many pubs and other shops on the high street are struggling from high costs, crime, and anti-social behaviour.
“That is why Labour’s manifesto sets out our plans to reduce the business rates burden on pubs and high streets, and to put police patrols back in town centres.”
Ealing North has been represented by Mr Murray since 2019 when he was chosen to replace Stephen Pound who stood down after 22 years and won with a majority of 12,269 votes over the Conservatives.
