For the first time since the 1980s,a party political election broadcast from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) was broadcast on TV last night (18 June 2024).
The theme of its broadcast was around people who are finding themselves politically homeless.
Following the broadcast, Stephen Balogh, the SDP’s candidate for Ealing Central and Acton told EALING.NEWS: “The SDP’s Party Election Broadcast portrays an all-too-familiar feeling for so many voters about the incumbent parties’ policies that fail to take into account the ordinary needs of all UK citizens: affordable housing for the next generation, public safety and security, services that work for the people they are supposed to serve.”.
He added: “By encouraging these very necessary conversations, the SDP is helping the voices of those many millions to be heard once more.”
SDP leader William Clouston said of the broadcast: “So many fellow citizens feel ignored and patronised by the establishment political class. We wanted to produce a film which explored this and which had a little humour in it.”
He added: “The big message is that there is a party which shares the sensible majority public view on things like immigration and housing – it’s the SDP. Basically, that’s why the SDP is here – to give the public something decent to vote for.”
