Little Ealing primary school win gold at London Youth Games

Local primary school Little Ealing has won gold in two events at the London Youth Games 2023 which took place last week.

The South Ealing school started the week with a Gold win on 21 March 2023 for its year 5/6 sports hall athletics team gaining the top medal across a range of events including javelin. triple jump and sprint relay. This was the third time that Little Ealing has won gold.

On 23 March 2023, it was the turn of the 5/6 netball team who picked up Gold by beating Merton’s Bishop Gilpin into second place in the ‘hi-five’ mixed netball competition where only five players are allowed on court at any one time. Little Ealing team considered of 5 girls and 3 boys from years 5 and 6 and was the first time they have won a London-wide netball final.

Caroline Hodges, headteacher, Little Ealing said: ‘I’m so proud of the dedication and passion shown by the children to come out on top and win gold again in these prestigious London sporting events. It is fantastic that they have the opportunity to take part in something London-wide, and to be able to compete against other boroughs and schools because of the support for the London Youth Games given by The Mayor of London, Sport England, and NIKE. Representing the borough of Ealing makes us incredibly proud in anything we do, and I know the whole school were cheering them on to victory.’

Bobby Behzadi head of PE at Little Ealing added: ‘We put a lot of energy into the sports curriculum and activities at LEPS, and the kids match that with their enthusiasm for a whole range of sports, from netball to cricket to NFL. It’s amazing to see them achieve this success, to show them that hard work and dedication do pay off. Physical activity is so important for kids as we know, and I hope that this experience will inspire them to carry on finding joy in sport as they go into their secondary schools, and adulthood. The whole sports teaching staff couldn’t have asked any more of any of them on the day; they gave 100% and because of that, and all their hard word in training, they took home the gold.”
