Pupils from Little Ealing Primary School in South Ealing are flying out today (29 January 2025) to Florida in the USA to take part in the NFL Flag International Championships taking place from 31 January – 2 February 2025.
Flag football, played by boys and girls, is a non-contact version of American Football.
Little Ealing Primary School secured their place to Orlando by winning the NFL Flag National Championship in Loughborough last June.
They will be competing against teams of boys and girls from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Panama and Spain.
Speaking to EALING.NEWS, Bobby Behzadi, Little Ealing’s head of PE said of the pupils: “I’m most proud of how they have conducted themselves throughout the whole period. It’s very easy to get carried away with all the excitement. They have remained themselves and been extremely humble with their conduct especially around their peers and family members.”
He added: “They work extremely hard and are continually aware that they have achieved this privilege through applying themselves and taking every opportunity to improve not only their skills but also themselves as young people.”
Vice President of Flag Football at the NFL Stephanie Kwok said: “Young athletes from around the world will have the opportunity to visualise the aspirational pathways the sport can offer – from the grassroots level through to the elite level, with flag football’s recent inclusion in the LA28 Olympic Games.”
Ms Kwok added: “We’re looking forward to seeing these boys and girls represent their countries and skills on a world stage. Wishing all teams the best of luck”
