Trailfinders Women has appointed Barney Maddison as its new head coach following Thursday’s (29 August 2024) announcement that Giselle Mather had left the Ealing club ahead of the forthcoming 2024/5 season which starts next month.
Mr Maddison, the former assistant coach was also a player for the Ealing Trailfinders men’s team and has spent the last 13 years coaching at teams including Sheffield Hallam and Bracknell RFC as well as Trailfinders Rugby Academy and Trailfinders Women.
As a player, the 35-year-old led Ealing Trailfinders men to their second Championship title last season.
Mr Maddison said of his appointment: “I’m really looking forward and excited about the opportunity I’ve been given with Trailfinders Women. I want to improve on what has already been established last year. They are a great bunch to work with, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do this season.”
Ealing Trailfinders managing director, Ben Ward said: “We’re delighted to appoint Barney as Head Coach of Trailfinders Women. He was a brilliant leader as a player, which has shone through in his coaching career, and he has a great rugby brain.”
Mr Ward added: “We are excited to see where he can take Trailfinders Women to see in the next few years as we look to compete at the top end of the PWR.”
