HS2 helps fund after school art club for John Perryn pupils

A charity based in East Acton has received a £10,000 grant from HS2 which will allow it to continue to offer an after school art club for year 5 and year 6 pupils from John Perryn Primary School.

Acton Play Projects and Leisure Events (A.P.P.L.E.), which is based at Acton Park, has been given funding that will see it deliver 30 sessions of its after school club for 16 pupils. It will also be offering four drop-in sessions in June and July for children to help them prepare for the annual Acton Carnival taking place on 15 July 2023.

A.P.P.L.E, which was founded in 1996 by local Acton parents, will offer a variety of creativity to the children including painting, sculpture, photography, printing, mosaics, environmental installations and will also invite the young people to suggest other art forms to explore.

Vicki Barker, co-founder and project coordinator at A.P.P.L.E. said: “A.P.P.L.E. are delighted with the grant from HS2. It means that we can continue Art Club at John Perryn Primary School. It is always amazing the imagination and creativity of the children that come to Art Club.”

Cathy Elliott, independent chair of the HS2 Funds said: “A.P.P.L.E. has served the people of Ealing for almost two decades, and it’s right that we recognise this valuable contribution through our community & environment fund.”

Ms Elliott added: “Their team has put forward an exciting programme of activities across this year that will have a direct positive impact on the communities where HS2 is building. I would encourage any organisation demonstrably impacted by HS2 construction to check their eligibility for funding.”
