Oxfam Ealing gets into the Christmas spirit with Oxjam music party featuring local MP Dr Rupa Huq on the decks

An evening of music on Thursday (21 December 2023) to raise funds for Oxfam to support rebuilding of infrastructure in Gaza following the recent armed conflict and fighting between Israel and Hamas is taking place with an eclectic line-up performing including Ealing Central & Acton MP Dr Rupa Huq taking to the decks and DJing.

The Oxjam event runs from 5pm to 9pm at Oxfam Music Shop, 23 The Green, W5 5DA. Entry is free and the organisers say donations are welcome to support its work.

Among those taking part alongside Dr Huq are Moan Red, Paul Kissaun, DJ Nipper Smith and even Santa Claus will be taking part.

Dr Huq has been DJing for over 30 years and started off at Central Middlesex hospital radio and has had a close connection to Oxfam. A summer one-day musical festival for Oxfam featuring Dr Huq took place in August. She said: “The Oxfam record and music shop was where I had my first summer job as a teenager.”

The local MP is encouraging locals to join her and support the work of Oxfam.

She said: “It’s free entry on the door with cash donations welcome for the charity’s vital work, including rebuilding infrastructure in Gaza which has seen so much death and destruction since the despicable Hamas terror attacks that began this present circle of violence. Let me know if you have any song requests.”

Dr Huq also said of the situation in the Middle East. “The Hamas massacres in Israel and subsequent war in Gaza have been horrifying for all of us as they unfold in real time across our 24 hour news media. As the death toll has wracked up, the present situation of suffering has become unsustainable. Recently when it was put to the vote, I backed a ceasefire on all sides to get the hostages out.

She added: “I hope and pray for lasting peace and a permanent ceasefire with all hostages freed, the rebuilding of Gaza, and peace talks with appropriate action by the International Criminal Court, with justice to be done for all war crimes of Hamas and Netanyahu regime with investigation and appropriate action.”
