Having raised £155,265 from 445 backers in August 2022 to fund a second screen, ActOne Cinema which opened in October 2021 at the former Acton Library, has brought forward the opening date for the second screen at its community cinema to 27 January 2023.
Since opening, 144 films have been screened with 27,000 tickets sold to people including young and old who have enjoyed a range of films from Hollywood blockbusters through to classics and independent cinema treats. By adding a second screen, ActOne says it has taken a step to securing its future by being able to offer more variety to the community and utilise its space.
The first film to be shown on the second screen is Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans which takes a personal portrait of family life in post-war America.
Like it’s first screen, which holds 60 seats, the second screen has a 60 seat capacity which allows up to 120 people to be watching films at the same time.
Speaking to EALING.NEWS, ActOne Cinema director James Lewis said: “We are incredibly excited about the official opening on Friday. The building and opening of our second screen is testament to the amazing community that has supported this cinema from day one. Every single penny has made a difference – whether you’ve seen a film, hired the cinema for an event, or bought a coffee from our café.”
Mr Lewis added that having the second screen for the cinema will help to ensure a cinema in Acton remains and can grow even further. “As for the future, our aim with the second screen has always been to make the cinema financially viable. With the support of our brilliant customers, the sky’s the limit.”
