A one-day music event on bank holiday Monday (28 August 2023) to raise funds for Oxfam is taking place with an eclectic range of bands performing live along with Ealing Central & Acton MP Dr Rupa Huq taking to the decks and DJing.

The Oxjam festival runs from 1pm at the Castle Inn, St Mary’s Road, W5 featuring bands and performers.

Among those taking to the stage are Brace Yourself which features Simon Duncan who is behind the popular Ealing Gin, Grim Faced Marys, Sparkles, Rich Euro-Reid. Elvie and Barry Knight, a former IT officer in Parliament.

Dr Huq, who has been DJing for over 30 years and started off at Central Middlesex hospital radio said she is excited to be the DJ for Oxjam. “The Oxfam record and music shop was where I had my first Summer job as a teenager so when current manager Graeme told me of his plan to hold a local festival for such a great cause I jumped at the chance.”

Dr Huq added: “Oxfam’s mission to tackle gender inequality and climate change also appeals to me”.

The local MP is also promising a wide selection of tunes on her set-list from Bollywood to French hip-hop and everything in-between and will also be taking requests during the day.

Graeme Smith, manager of Ealing Oxfam said: “I’m proud to run Oxfam Ealing Green with my young talented team. The Oxjam festival on bank holiday Monday is all about putting Ealing’s musical talent towards the fight against global poverty”.

Entry to the event is free and the organisers say donations are welcome. There will also be raffle prizes with all proceeds from the sale of tickets going to Oxfam to help support projects. The charity’s current projects provide food and clean water for people caught up in disasters and conflict around the world.
