63-year-old bus driver jailed for killing teenage boy by dangerous driving outside Northolt station

A 63-year-old bus driver has been jailed for two and a half years after he killed a teenage boy on the road.

Paul Manu was driving above the speed limit and had also run a red light when he hit 16-year-old Mario Radulescu on 17 December 2021 on Mandeville Road outside Northolt underground station.

At a previous hearing at the Old Bailey on 28 June 2023, Manu of Lea Crescent in Ruislip pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

Mario was a student a St Dominic’s Sixth Form College in Harrow On The Hill having joined a few months earlier from Alec Reed Academy in Northolt.

In a tribute to him, Andrew Parkin, the principal of St Dominic’s said in the spring 2022 newsletter: “Mario Radulescu was 16, originally from Romania, and had joined us from the Alec Reed Academy last September so had only been with us a short few months. His death was felt keenly by both communities and the Memorial Mass held on Friday January 21st was a sombre but very dignified occasion and one that honoured the young life taken so soon and was greatly appreciated by his parents and immediate family who joined us for the Mass in the Chapel.”

In a statement read out to the court, Manu apologised to Mario’s family. He said: “I would like to apologise for the terrible accident that happened. I never thought that I would be in this situation in my life. I hope for your forgiveness, even though I don’t deserve it.”
