Ealing has been ranked overall as the sixth most popular borough in London for nurturing multilingualism in children, a new report has found. It says this is largely down to its very strong bilingual community which further enriches language and cultural development.
According to census and other data analysed by Preply, a global language learning marketplace connecting students with tutors, 30.8% of Ealing residents speak more than one language making it the third strongest bilingual community in London.
While overall, around 36% of Brits are bilingual, the world’s most bilingual country in Indonesia where around 75% of the population speaks a second language.
In other data, 0.04% of those in Ealing are proficient in British Sign Language, placing it as joint fourth most BSL-proficient borough in London.
