A Year 13 student, from Featherstone High School, who is currently doing his A levels is set to go to Harvard University in the USA this autumn after gaining a scholarship to study at the prestigious academic institution.
Gurdit Singh, who is taking physics, economics, maths and further maths, was supported by the The Sutton Trust and teachers from Featherstone in applying to a programme that helps UK students apply to US universities and get a fully funded week to the US to gain an insight into studying in the States.
Speaking to EALING.NEWS, Gurdit said: “Over the past year I’ve been on the Sutton Trust US Programme and it has honestly been life changing experience. I ended up applying to many US schools and got into Harvard, Princeton, Rice, and the Georgia Institute of Technology all with full scholarships. I’ve committed to Harvard and am so excited to get to campus this autumn.”
He added: “I would highly encourage any current Year 12 student to apply to the programme if you think you’d like to study in America.”
As well as studying hard, Gurdit also took part in academic competitions outside of school. He won the Imperial College London Science and Innovation Award coming first in the 16-19 age category where he was judged on problem identification, originality of solution, strength of science, feasibility and communication, he was awarded First Place in the 16-19 age category.
Gurdit said of taking part: “It was both inspiring and gratifying to have presented my project in front of many esteemed scientists and engineers at an incredible institution.”
