Health and Safety Executive inspectors investigating HS2 incident in Northolt after five workers were injured

Following an incident on 26 August 2023 in which five HS2 workers were injured at its Mandeville Road site in Northolt, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has confirmed inspectors were at the site today (29 August 2023) as part of its investigations.

Construction work at the Northolt site, located next to Northolt Underground station, was stopped following the incident which occurred at around 10:30am.

HSE said work is underway to identify the cause of the incident in which all workers were hospitalised.  One worker still remains in hospital while the other four were discharged.

HSE inspector Gordon Nixon said: “We are working with all parties involved. At the moment, we are making initial enquiries.”

Mr Nixon added: “If there will be a full HSE investigation, this will take time.”

An HS2 spokesperson said: “We are working with our construction partner and the HSE to thoroughly investigate the cause of this incident. To facilitate this, all construction work at the site has stopped.”

They added: “Four people involved in the incident have been discharged from hospital. One individual remains in hospital and is receiving treatment for a back injury. We wish them well with their recovery.”
