Ealing Scouts recognised at Windsor Castle

Chief Scout, Bear Grylls has congratulated Rob Scoynes and John Foxwell from Ealing Scouts for their contribution to the scouting movement.

Last month, Mr Grylls honoured Rob Scoynes and John Foxwell at a special event at Windsor Castle where he was joined by The Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire, Andrew Try in congratulating Rob on achieving the highest award in Scouting for adventure and skill development and in Mr Foxwell in getting his King Scout Silver Wolf, the highest award made by The Scout Association “for services of the most exceptional character.”

Scouts were also joined by fellow ambassadors Dwayne Fields, Ellie Simmonds and Megan Hines in front of family and friends in what was a fantastic celebration of achievement.

The King Court (previously Queen Scout) award is presented for outstanding personal achievement and is achieved by Scouts aged between 16 and 25 years old. In order to achieve one, the Scouts have to take part and complete a range of challenges including an expedition in wild country, service to their community, developing an existing talent or learning some new skills and a five-day residential project in a new environment.

Chief Scout, Bear Grylls said: “I am so proud to celebrate the achievements of the Scouts here today at Windsor. Gaining this award is the pinnacle of their Scouting journey. Rob and John have demonstrated courage and kindness, alongside a true Never Give Up spirit, and shown Scouting values to the highest of standards. They’ve contributed hugely to their communities and developed many skills along the way. These Scouts are an inspiration to us all due to their commitment, enthusiasm and hard work – I am full of pride for every single one of them.”

Mr Grylls added: “People such as Rob and John will have shown dedication and a willingness to learn all they can, which will provide them with opportunities to gain skills for life.

Mr Scoynes said:  “It’s been an amazing experience, I wanted to do musical theatre so took up ballet to get an understanding of dance, which has been really insightful. I’ve had the opportunity to explore Madagascar and seen wild lemurs. I’ve also learnt about different religions. The award is diverse and I have been able to link it in with my Gold Duke of Edinburgh. I am really proud of my achievement.”
